It’s not just the ‘big kids’ who’ll be out playing at Sail Port Stephens 2020, with Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club (PSSAC) in Salamander Bay hosting two off-the-beach regattas from May 1-3.
The first is a junior regatta for Optimist, Bic O’pen skiffs and Sabots sailors under the age of 18. Up to six races will be staged, starting from 10am.
The club is also welcoming Laser, Taser, NS14 and MG classes to participate in the inaugural Off-the-Beach event for sailors of all ages. Up to nine races will be held from 12.30pm each day.
It’s an ideal way to keep the younger ones occupied while mum and dad go sailing in the main regatta or enjoy some time ashore. It also ensures Sail Port Stephens has a new brigade of customers coming through while exposing the local juniors to some outside competition.
“We’re excited to be adding a two-sail dinghy element to the regatta for the first time,” Regatta Director Jennie Hughes says. “Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club is a fantastic host with a great beach frontage for launching.
“We encourage all the classes to come along and enjoy the real sailing festival atmosphere that surrounds Sail Port Stephens.”
